| HAYWARD FIELD MASTERS INVITATIONAL EVENTS! On
April 4th, the Oregon Track Club Masters sponsored a
masters mile and 200m races at Hayward Field as part
of the Pepsi Team Invitational, and 100m and 800m races
as part of the Oregon / UCLA Dual Meet.
|
AMERICAN RECORD! - Suzi MacLeod of the Oregon
Track Club Masters celebrated recently turning 75 by
setting a pending American Record in the mile of 9:38
on Wednesday at Summit High School. Then she rested
for two days and made the trip from Bend to Hayward
Field to crush that mark in front of the Hayward fans
with a 8:54.80! Great job Suzi!
In the men's mile, Oregon Track Club Masters members Chris
Yorges and Thomas Kreuzpeinter battled it out for
the overall win, with Chris getting the win 4:45.11
to 4:46.75. Dave Clingan of Bowerman AC won the
age graded title, running 4:54.77 at age 54.

|
In the 200m, Daphne Sluys of Club Northwest (and
SETA Track Club) was the first finisher in the women's
race in 29.28, with Steve Sanders on Team Red Lizard finishing
first in the men's race in 25.64. But with multiple
age groups represented, there were a number of great
performances, so check out the full
results.
At the Oregon/UCLA meet, Chris Yorges added the 800m
title to the mile he won 2 weeks earlier, clocking a
2:11.69. Trisha Kluge led the women with a 2:41.09,
with Suzi MacLeod's 3:46.68 coming close to the American
record for W75-79.
Fidel Banuelos was first across the line in the 100
at 12.62. OTCM's Bob Golly was the only athlete
to complete the quadruple - running all 4 events in
the two meets. This was quite a feat, as there
was no recovery time between events.

OTCM PRESENTATION AND SOCIAL
EVENTS
MAY, 2009 - At our May Presentation and Social,
Ingrid Skoog gave an informative and entertaining talk
about sports nutrition, with a specific focus on the
nutritional needs of masters athletes. Ingrid is a Registered Dietitian and Board Certified Specialist in Sports
Nutrition with a masters in exercise physiology. It was an excellent
presentation, and we thank Ingrid for sharing with us.
As an extra bonus, everyone in attendance received
a free Eugene 08 t-shirt!
MARCH, 2009 -
If you weren't
at our March Presentation and Social,
you missed an excellent talk by Margo
Jennings. Margo was the long time
coach of Olympic gold medallists Maria
Mutola and Kelly Holmes. She shared
her experiences as an Olympic and elite
level coach. Margo rarely speaks
in the United States, and it was a great
honor to have her talk to our club!

OTC MASTERS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR AWARDS
|
For the 2009 calendar year, we will
be having awards for the top age graded
performances in the following categories:
- Top Track Performance
- Top Field Performance
- Top Race Walk Performance
- Top Road Race Performance
To allow performances in various events
and across various ages, we will be using
the WMA tables to assign a percentage to
each mark (yes, the tables have some flaws,
but it's the fairest way we can do it for
now).

HAYWARD CLASSIC CANCELLED Unfortunately,
we have been forced to cancel the 2009 Hayward Classic,
due to lack of availability of Hayward Field and other
schedule conflicts. This year was especially
difficult to find a suitable date, with Hayward Field
hosting the PAC-10 Championships, NCAA Western Regional
Championships, and USATF National Championships, along
with the normal University of Oregon schedule and the
Prefontaine Classic.
The Hayward Classic will return in June 2010!
